Don River Cleanup

The Leaside Business Park Association is located in an area that has the potential to impact Wilket Creek which is part of the Don River Watershed.

The LBPA met in 2009 to discuss the potential initiatives we, as a group, could undertake to reduce our environmental impact.  Information about the Don River Clean-up and Environmental Management Practices was also presented at that time.  The concern is overflow of the combined sewers, sending potentially contaminated water and raw sewage into the Don River System.  This City of Toronto is hosting open house meetings to inform the community of the most recent plan to manage this issue.

Please find attached an information bulletin inviting community members to attend one of four sessions this month concerning the Don River and Central Waterfront Clean-up Project.

The proposed plans include new underground tunnels, storage tanks and shafts, and a treatment facility for wet weather flows.  This plan was presented at the last Public Open House Meetings held in May 2010. Since then, the study team has identified the preliminary preferred design for the project which includes the proposed location of various facilities.
